Metro Training Pty Ltd works in partnership with Allens Training Pty Ltd RTO 90909 to provide this course.The unit of competency has been developed to provide students with the skills to recognise an asthma attack, provide first aid assistance to the victim, hold blue reliever medication in first aid kit for asthma emergencies in line with the State and Territory Regulatory Bodies.

This course can be provided on-site or an off-site course can be arranged at a convenient location for staff. This course can also be presented where no accreditation (certificate) is received but rather is provided as an information session for staff.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS 

Participants must have the physical fitness to be able to meet the demands of the practical demonstration such as assisting a casualty into the correct position and administering asthma medication.

Pre-course study: Students may be required to undertake online pre-course work prior to attending the face to face session depending on the course delivery mode.

Online study: Students must have access to a computer, smartphone, tablet or other electronic device with access to the internet to complete the online/ pre-course studies.

ASSESSMENT REQUIREMENTS & ACTIVITIES 

Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks.

Assessments conducted during face-to-face training session(s) include: 

Practical task demonstrations:

  • Simulated Scenario – Administer asthma medication (with spacer) using a personal asthma action plan

  • Performance Task – Administer asthma medication without a spacer

 

Documentation – The student must complete the following to the appropriate standard:

  • Asthma Incident Report Form

  • Asthma Risk Assessment Form

  • Individual Management Plan

 

Theory assessment - A written assessment consisting of multiple choice and short answer questions. All questions must be completed.

VU23090 - Provide first aid management of anaphylaxis

VU23091 - Develop risk minimisation and risk management strategies for anaphylaxis

Metro Training Pty Ltd works in partnership with Allens Training Pty Ltd RTO 90909 to provide a course in First Aid Management of Anaphylaxis. The unit covers competency in advanced techniques for management of anaphylaxis and the administration of adrenaline via an auto injector in line with the requirements of the Australian Resuscitation Council and State and Territory Regulatory Bodies.

This course can be provided on-site or an off-site course can be arranged at a convenient location for staff. This course can also be presented where no accreditation (certificate) is received but rather is provided as an information session for staff.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS 

As a minimum, entrants to the course must have literacy and numeracy competencies equivalent to the Australian Core Skills Framework Level 3.  An example of an ACSF Level 3 competency is being able to read and comprehend the ASCIA Action Plan for Anaphylaxis, use and respond to communication techniques to request appropriate emergency assistance at the scene of a First Aid incident and use writing skills to complete incident reports.

Online study options:  The online learning program can be found in the student portal. Students must have access to a computer, smartphone, tablet, or other electronic devices with access to the internet to complete the online studies and practical assessment

  • Provide first aid treatment for anaphylaxis and administer adrenaline using a trainer autoinjector device on a mock casualty

  • Provide first aid treatment for mild to moderate allergy which progresses to anaphylaxis and administers adrenaline using a trainer autoinjector device on a mock casualty

Documentation:

  • Complete a First aid/Incident report form

  • Complete a Risk Assessment 

  • Complete an Individual Anaphylaxis Management and Communication Plan 

Theory assessment:

  • A written exam consisting of multiple choice and short answer questions
